The commonwealth games is a multi sport event held every 4 years involving the elite atheletes of the Commonwealth of Nations. the first such event, then known as the British Empire Games was held in 1930. the name changed to British Empire and Commonwealth Games in 1954, to British Commonwealth Games in 1978, and assumes the current name of Commonwealth Games in 1978. The city of New Delhi, home to 13.8 million people, will host the Commonwealth Games in 2010. This will be the first time India has hosted the Games and only the second time the event has been held in Asia.
